Impressive win for boxer Anthony in USA

The Braid ABC boxer claimed an impressive win over a top US opponent from Washington DC while boxing for the Northern Ireland team in the annual Belfast Beltway Classic.

Anthony came up against the Washington state number 2, Peter Drury in one of the most explosive bouts of the night and the Ballymena bantamweight won over the American crowd due to his fast and aggressive work rate.

Anthony, who trained impeccably for this trip, wore his opponent down and dominated from the early in second round.

The Belfast Beltway classic allows boxers from across Northern Ireland to form a team and take on boxers from boxing clubs from around Washington metropolitan area. Anthony, a former Ulster senior Champion, is delighted with his performance and was elated to have been chosen to box.

Anthony thanks his employers, Wrightbus, who kindly granted him time off to attend the trip. Anthony trains each night after work and despite boxing at senior level has had no absent days over his 4 year engineering apprenticeship. Meanwhile another Braid champion Boxer, Jacob Bradshaw, will be travelling to Belgium in June to compete alongside a 8 strong Co Antrim champions team.

Jacob who claimed the Co Antrim 86kg title and narrowly missed out on an Irish title claiming silver was invited to make up part of the team.

Jacob is the older of the boxing Bradshaw brothers from Ballykeel and younger brother Corey, four time Antrim champ, will be helping Jacob prepare for this trip.
