Ben is the hat-trick hero for Amateurs U15s

Dromore dominated the match from the start and Jack Lennon was unlucky not to provide them with an early lead when his shot from the edge of the box struck the outside of the post.

The opener came after 15 minutes when a strong run from Lennon got him behind the Damolly defence. When the ball was squared to Davy Maze by Joel Jess, he calmly stepped inside his marker and shot home from 12 yards.

Daris Benallal and Joel Jess had the upper hand in central midfield and Aaron Ball was finding good positions wide on the left. Striker Ben Martin was creating all sorts of problems with his movement and positional play.

Damolly’s attack lacked any real potency - their main threat came from midfield players breaking forward– and the Dromore central defensive pairing of Jordan Brush and Louis Simpson and full backs Simon Percy and Daniel Abraham coped comfortably.

Despite creating a few more opportunities and continuing to dominate the proceedings Dromore reached the break still only one goal to the good.

The second half began much as the first. Dromore again dominated possession and working tirelessly to win the ball back.

They took the lead following a Damolly free kick from just inside the Dromore half. Louis Simpson anticipated the flight, cut the cross out and played a lofted pass over the Damolly defence for Ben Martin. He dealt superbly with the bouncing ball by neatly lobbing it over the head of the advancing keeper for 2-0.

The cushion of the two goal lead seemed to provide Dromore with the confidence to retain possession of the ball without reducing their work rate or tenacity and during the remainder of the game they played some of their best football of the season.

David Ringland had a very comfortable debut back between the sticks, having only one shot to deal with, which he did comfortably - and Damolly’s inability to put pressure on the Dromore defence was due in no small part to some tenacious and technically excellent tackling from Jordan Brush.

Two became three when Daniel Abraham, broke up a Damolly counter-attack by winning a challenge, in which he was second favourite, before calmly playing in Jack Lennon down the right hand side. Lennon’s cross was poorly dealt with by the defence and Martin was on hand with a smart finish from inside the box.

Jack Daly was introduced as a substitute and had an immediate impact by getting behind the Damolly defence and creating the fourth goal when his effort rebounded off post and bar before dropping to Ben Martin who smashed home for his hat-trick.

Daly and full back Percy remained heavily involved in Dromore’s attacking play for the remainder of the game.

With the match won, Martin was replaced by Matthew Doyle in the unfamiliar role of centre forward. Relishing the opportunity, and with team mates and coaches willing him to get on the score sheet , Doyler created a couple of opportunities but was just unable to find the finish that would have put the icing on the cake of an excellent Dromore performance.
