Bann unlucky to secure sixth point

BANBRIDGE had Balmoral at home in a game which traditionally had been a hard one to win.

Balmoral have finished as runners up in the league twice in the last three seasons.

Bann won this game by 16 shots and were unlucky not to secure six points as won of their rinks lost six shots on the 20th end.

Rink 1: This was a close game from start to finish. Balmoral led 5-0 after two ends, by five ends it was all square and in the ninth end it was all square at 9-9.

After 16 ends Balmoral had a commanding lead of nine shots but the locals pulled it back to just one shot by end 20 (18-19). Two shots in the final end secured the win for the visitors by three shots.

Rink 2: Bann led 7-1 after five ends but that lead was reduced to just three by end nine. By 12 ends though they had gone 15-5 ahead and by 15 it was 20-9. Losing two fours and a single at end 18, however, meant Bann were struggling to keep ahead but they won the shot on the final end to win 22-20.

Rink 3: This was a good game and Bann will consider that they were unlucky to lose. Bann were down by three shots after the third end but won the next five ends to lead 11-5 after eight ends.

After the 10th Bann led by one shot and after scoring an five and a one they seemed to be edging away but Balmoral scored three singles and a four to tie the game at 17-17 after 16 ends.

At the worst possible time lost a count of six to trail by four going into the final end and despite pulling back two shots they lost 24-22.

Rink 4: After five ends Bann led 7-4, conceding one shot over the next five ends Bann increased their lead to 10 shots (15-5). Four more shots from the next five ends saw Bann lead by 13 shots after 15 ends (21-8). By end 19 Bann were 23 shots ahead and went on to win 31-12.
