Bann Threes lose out in the midst of Storm Desmond

Bann were dealt a blow prior to the game with the news that Sam Green had sustained an injury in his school game in the morning and wouldn’t be able to play.

With a small squad, Bann were looking to absorb the pressure whilst attacking on the break.

Civil Service started at a quick pace putting pressure on the defence however Bann managed to withstand the early onslaught with some determined defending.

Bann grew into the game with Kennedy linking up well with Dean and McConnell in midfield. Dean was unlucky to see a great chance go wide midway through the first half after he eliminated three Civil Service players before firing wide of the far post.

Liggett was attacking well from right back and a great cross was just missed at the far post. Civil Service continued to pressure the Bann defence and from a free hit within the Bann 25, they opened the scoring.

A dangerous ball was played into the circle and Anderson in the Bann nets could only block the ball back to a CS attacker who forced the ball home from close range to give them a lead going into half time.

Bann tried to get back into the game early in the second half when they won a short corner but were unable to convert. Roleston and Large were linking well up front but unable to create any clear chances.

As the game began to open up, Civil Service got a second goal when their initial shot was deflected in by the unlucky Montgomery. Anderson in the Bann goal pulled off a couple of great saves to keep Bann in the match.

As Bann pushed forward looking for a goal, they won another short corner but Kennedy’s flick went over the bar.

Civil Service were looking dangerous up front as Banbridge tired and got a third goal from a shot into the bottom corner just before the final whistle.

Bann now travel to North Down to take on their thirds and look to get their league campaign back on track.
