Bann Thirds end 2014 with home loss to Valley

Bann Thirds ended the 2014 side of the league with a home game and second meeting with Valley Fourths.

The game started off well with both teams going goal for goal. Great interceptions from Karen Waddell and Orla Murphy helped Bann take a 2 goal lead in the first quarter. Bann 5-3 Valley.

Second quarter saw great defence work from the defending duo of GD Maxine Williamson and Kerry Shaw, who was playing out of position in GK.

Bann’s shooters Mona Lewis and Jenny McGowan struggled with Valley’s tight defence, causing forced shots that led to Valley swiftly moving the ball up the court and converting, giving them a lead of 6 goals. Bann 9-15 valley.

A few changes made at half time with Maxine Brooke’s moving from WA to WD, Orla Murphy from WD to C and Karen Waddell from C to WA.

The attacking trio played well together to get the ball to the circle but shots just were not on target for Bann.

Valley continued to extend their lead. Bann 10-24 Valley.

The last quarter saw Michelle Marshall taking to court as GS replacing Jenny McGowan. Bann slowed the game down with good movement throughout the court. Bann found new momentum and forced errors on the strong Valley side but unfortunately hadn’t enough time to pull back the score.

Final score Bann 17-33 Valley.

Player of the match- Kerry Shaw. Kerry played with great pressure and never quit throughout the game. Well done.
