BANN REGROUP AFTER DEFEAT

BANBRIDGE will attempt to regroup and bounce back after last weekend’s Irish Senior Cup defeat in Dublin in order to take on Glenanne in the Irish Hockey League on Saturday April 30.

Manager Mark Tumilty said he and the team were left disappointed after a poor performance against Monkstown at the UCD grounds on Saturday. Mark said there were no excuses for the three-nil defeat during which he said the enormity of the occasion may have affected his players.

“It is particularly disappointing when you consider we’ve beaten Cookstown - who went on to win the Cup - three times already this season,” said Mark. “We just didn’t perform on the day. There are no excuses on my part or on the boys’ part.”

But Mark said all is not lost if the team learns from their mistakes. “If we learn from it and use these lessons in the future then at least we can take some comfort in that,” he added.

Bann went into Saturday’s match as favourites but will most likely turn up for the League match as underdogs, which Mark said could work in their favour.

“It will take a while to get back on our feet following Saturday’s loss but if we go into the Glenanne match as underdogs that could take the pressure off,” he said.

The coach compared the weekend’s defeat to the team’s loss at at the Kirk Cup final last year. “If we just apply ourselves we can show our ability and hopefully do better in the League.”

Mark said the sooner the team are back on the pitch the quicker they can recover from defeat.

“We want to get back at it to get the defeat out of our system and back onto winning form,” he added.

Bann will play Glennane at Lisnagarvey on Saturday April 30.
