This week saw the Bann ladies 3XI face North Down 4XI at their first game of the season at home ground Havelock.
The Bann side went out with a confident attitude and were determined to catch a win.
North Down started strongly, with most of the play attacking the Bann defensive line. Some great tackles by Sarah Dale, Jayne Scott and Rachel Groves kept the ball out of the circle for the first part of the game.
Towards the end of the first half, the Bann midfield began to break down despite some great efforts from Jayne Walker and Vicky Berry. North Down were able to capitalise on a few straight balls through the Bann back line to make it 0-2 by half time.Bann knew that they needed to go out strong in the second half to a side which they had not anticipated being so strong.
Bann began to get more possession in the 2nd half and the play began to switch.
Despite some fantastic saves by Bann keeper Rebekah Hillis, the away side went up 0-3.
Bann kept pushing on and were able to win a short corner towards the end of the game. With Rachel Groves pushing out and straight strike from Emma Leeper to the bottom left hand corner, Groves was able to deflect the ball to the back board giving the home side a small glimmer of hope.
Bann’s confidence grew towards the end of the game, however unfortunately, time was not on the Bann side.
