Bann denied victory by last kick of the game

Clann traveled to Drumgath on Friday night knowing that victory would see them take another step closer towards promotion and keep them top of Division Two.

Clann opened the scoring after McCusker pointed well from infront of goal. Sean McGarry then broke from the half back line and surged forward into the Drumgath defence and pointed well to extend the Clann’s lead to two.

Magee then retained possession in his own half and ran through the Drumgath defence, working the ball round three men and pointing from distance to extend the Clann’s lead to three points.

Drumgath then hit back with three points of their own, one coming from a free and the other two from play to quickly draw the game level. Liam McGarry and Lenaghan fisted the ball well amongst eachother until Lenaghan found McGrath in space who pointed well from distance.

As the Clann pushed forward in an attempt to increase their lead, they were caught out at the back when Drumgath worked the ball up the field and scored a well worked goal, fisting the ball across goal and easily finishing.

Drumgath again broke down a Clann attack and pressed forward to score another point from play and increase their lead to three points. Clann then won a free kick and Feeney pointed to bring the opening half to an end and leave Clann trailing by two at half time.

Drumgath started the second half by scoring three unanswered points to give them a lead of give points. Clann were pushing and battling extremely hard but were wasteful infront of goal and missing decisive scoring chances.

Clann finally got their first score of the second half, Gillen finding McArdle who passed to Liam McGarry to point from play.

Clann were now stretching Drumgath and playing good fluent football and closed the gap with a point from substitute Gillen under pressure from Drumgath defence. Gillen doubled his scoring tally with another well taken point moments later to close the gap to two Points.

Clann then sent forward another attack on the Drumgath goal, and the ball found it’s way to Gillen again who finished the ball to the back of the net and regain the Clann’s one point lead.

Drumgath battled back and drew the game level but Clann again worked the ball into a scoring position and Feeney pointed from play from a tight angle to give the Clann another one point lead.

The Clann had another chance to settle the game but the Drumgath keeper saved Liam McGarry’s effort.

As time was nearly up Drumgath broke with one last attack and midfielder Packie Downey struck from distance to level the game with the last kick of the game.
