Bann A do better than expected at Londonderry Park

BANN’S A team entertained Londonderry Park from Newtownards in a game where they were expected to get at least five points.

They got six of the seven points on offer and were unlucky not to have claimed the maximum as the skip with the last bowl moved the Jack to gain two shots when there were three against him.

RINK 1: Bann only lost two ends from the first 12 played and were leading 16-6. The Bann rink failed to score over the next four ends and when the 16th end was played they were four shots behind. The next three ends went in Bann’s favour and with two ends to play Bann led by a shot. It was all square again until the last end. With Bann lying three shots and the final opposition bowl to be played the skip carried the jack for two. Bann lost this rink 21-23.

RINK 2: Brendan Davis’ rink of Dan Tumilty, Michael Bunting and Mervyn Jess were always in command with their good bowling. It was 6-0 after three ends and after 10 Bann were leading 13-8. By the 15th end Bann had extended their lead to nine shots. They lost just one end after the 14th and that was a five on the 18th end. They went on to score a couple of fours to win 31-15.

RINK 3: Scoring a single on the first end followed by a six gave Bann the perfect start, but after the 14th end was played Londonderry Park were very much back in the game as Bann only led by one shot, 11-10. They only conceded a single shot over the final seven ends and won convincingly by 12 shots, 23-11.

RINK 4: In a new combination manager C Davis promoted Dessie Hamilton to skip for the A team. Bann were behind by three shots after five ends and the margin remained the same after 10 ends (7-12). The following five ends made huge differences as Bann were now in front after 15 ends by two shots (16-14). Bann only conceded one of the remaining six ends to win by six shots (24-18).

These six points has boosted the team’s league position.
