Bann 2s are top of the pile after a five star display dumps Mossley

Banbridge Men’s Seconds hit the top of Junior One with a 5-0 victory at Mossley on Saturday, keeping up their unbeaten run.

Due to the unavailability of the schoolboys, the seconds squad welcomed the additions of several aspiring youngsters from down the club including Craig Kennedy, Matthew Graham and Dylan Cowan.

Although there was a new look to the side, Bann started strongly probing the Mossley defence with strong running from Mark Campbell and skilful play from Kyle Marshall.

Dowds, Brown and McCracken were controlling the midfield and after a good move midway through the half, Bann opened the scoring when a fierce ball was deflected home by Kyle Marshall. Bann soon doubled their lead after Diarmid Reay waltzed past a couple of Mossley defenders before shooting low into the corner.

Mossley tried to get back into the game and Bingham had to react well to a couple of Mossley insertions into the Bann circle. Bann looked to kill off the game before half-time and shots from Dowds and Kyle Marshall were well saved by the Mossley keeper.

It didn’t take long for Bann to increase their lead in the second half when Kyle Marshall converted Bann’s first short corner with a drag-flick into the bottom corner.

Bann were now in the ascendency and Kyle Marshall got his hat-trick and Bann’s fourth with a similar short corner routine. James Anderson and Brown were linking up well down the right side and it was the later who nearly added a fifth after a great run into the circle however he couldn’t find the finish.

Bann did add a fifth when Reay injected the ball for Graham to finish from close range. Mossley continued to attack and were unlucky not to pull a goal back towards the end of the game.

Bann now top junior One but face a tough away game against the unbeaten Garvey 2’s who also have a game in hand.
