Banbridge Seconds lose out to Holywood

Banbridge Seconds met Holywood Seconds at Strathearn School, Belfast on Tuesday 20 October but came away with a 49-28 loss.

Bann Seconds put in a good effort in the opening quarter of the match with strong passing up the court from Tia Wilson (C) and Karen McCluskey (WA) to feed into the shooting circle.

But, Hollywood took advantage of some missed shots to take an early lead. Q1 finished Hollywood 13, Bann 7.

In the second quarter, Hollywood stepped up their pace and continued to score accurately.

Bann put in a huge effort to close the gap with some great touches from defenders Maxine Williamson (GD) and Elaine Connery (GK).

Lisa Smith and Emma Warburton worked together effectively in the shooting circle and scored some fabulous long shots to keep Banbridge in the game.

Hollywood retained lead position at half time with scores at 28 to 13.

Bann made a few changes to their defence. Charley Brush moved into GD and marked each pass tightly to try to force errors for Hollywood.

The third quarter saw Hollywood’s defence scoop some fantastic interceptions which fuelled them on to storm ahead.

Bann worked tirelessly to get the ball up to the shooting circle but Hollywood were in full flow. Quarter 3: Hollywood 41 – Bann 15.

In the final quarter, the play from Bann was determined and they began to find their flow with skilful centre court play and shooting.

Strong defence from Maxine Williamson and Charley Brush created some steals and Bann started to close the gap.

Although Bann played their best quarter of the match, Hollywood’s earlier leading play ensured their victory. Final score Hollywood Seconds 49, Banbridge Seconds 28.
