The Banbridge team, under the tutelage of Peter Hillen, performed much better than they did in round one.

Four 35’s (140 points) is a good target in this competition and Banbridge beat that by 2 points.

Seamus McGrath, fresh from his heroics at Silverwood the previous day, was the top scorer with 37 points.

John Poots was next best with 36 points.

This was another valuable contribution from John. Roy Rankin, another Silverwood hero, added a steady 35 points.

Aidan Doran and Dennis Lockhart, two close friends, playing together, both had 34 points.

The other three players for Banbridge were Peter Hillen, Felix Duffy and Sam Wilkinson.

A team score of 142 points should lift Banbridge up a few places on the league table.

Round 3 is at Lisburn on the 1st of June.

Capt T B Wallace Cup

One of the most prestigious competitions at Banbridge Golf Club is the T B Wallace Cup.

Of all the “Majors” at Banbridge this is the Open Championship and the winner is written into the history of Banbridge Golf Club.

Scoring was consistently low on the day and a great round by Stephen Shaw saw him emerge as winner with a score of 62 nett by one stroke from Ian Craven.

A double bogey finish cost Gavin Greer victory, but he is featuring each week and a win is only a matter of time.

Mervyn Campbell won the Senior prize and expect to see him in the winners enclosure in the next few weeks. He is my tip to win the Captains Prize at the beginning of August! Well done Stephen – keep up the great work.

Results:

1st – Stephen Shaw nett 62;

2nd – Ian Craven nett 63;

3rd – Damian Weir nett 64;
