In decidedly miserable conditions, the game began with a North Down pass back as Banbridge pressed on.

The first ten minutes progressed with much of the play was concentrated on the right hand side; Naomi Haugh at right back was kept busy and made some solid tackles to quell the Down winger’s advances.

Banbridge defended well as they were pinned back by an experienced opposition attack, with Katie Uprichard making some vital clearances from sweeper.

North Down found the opener after a goal line scramble and some confusion within the Banbridge defence allowed the ball to trickle over the line.

Undeterred, Banbridge spent the next fifteen minutes attacking the opposition half, as well as quashing some penalty corner efforts in defence.

The second half began with the ball in Banbridge’s possession, with Sarah Anderson in midfield interlinking with defence and attack well.

The game opened up for the away side and it was North Down’s turn to defend as Hannah Thompson and Ashleigh Mitchell combined well on the left to create chances in the opposition circle.

Against the run of play, a North Down counter attack gave them their second goal after a marauding run by their right winger.

To the away side’s credit, they toiled for the remainder of the game to find an answer and found themselves with a penalty corner only moments later.

Jessica Hassan’s shot went inches wide, but gave Banbridge a lift for the rest of the match.

Banbridge failed to find the finishing touch and the game ended 2-0 to North Down.

Despite the scoreline, Banbridge will find much to be encouraged by.
