Banbridge 3s hold league leaders at Lough Moss

Banbridge 3s drew 2-2 with league-leaders Annadale 3s at Lough Moss on Saturday.

They did it without the services of top scorer Gareth Matthews and influential defender Ben Matson. Bann’s cause wasn’t helped with the delayed presence of their keeper, which meant they had to start with Anderson filling in as kicking back.

Despite having no keeper, Bann started the better of the two teams with Kennedy and Campbell probing the Annadale defence. A strong run from Campbell resulted with Bann’s first short-corner and Douglas Anderson stepped up to dispatch the ball low into the bottom corner to give them the lead.

Annadale, however, equalised. Bann’s keeper Mooney then made an appearance but he was unable to stop a fierce reverse stick shot from just inside the Bann circle to give Annadale the lead at half-time.

The hosts continued to look for further goals but Bennington and Green in the Bann defence were holding strong. The marauding Scott from left back was starting to cause Annadale trouble, linking up well with Liggett and Anderson in midfield.

Bann’s second came from the right flank when Sneddon played a superb ball into the circle and Craig Campbell was on hand at the back post to knock the ball in. Campbell even had an excellent chance to win the game but his reverse stick shot just went past the post.

Bann 3s now travel to Cookstown to take on their 3s in the semi-final of the McClements Cup knowing the winner will face Bangor 3s or Kilkeel 2s.
