Ballymoney rider wins the Haldane Fisher Grand Prix

BALLYMONEY Cycling Club riders Bobby Kane, Nigel Elder and Stevie McAllister travelled to Newry on Sunday to compete in the annual Haldane Fisher GP.

This race was held on the Newry/Warrenpoint dual carriageway.

High speed action was expected by everyone.

With the competitors split into three groups in the A race.

Ballymoney CC rider Bobby Kane was as usual at the front of the action and the three groups were separated by six minutes.

But strong riding in the group by the eventual winner Ballymoney rider Jason Henry (U/A) and Ballymoney CC's Bobby Kane made sure they were not caught by the groups (A2 & (A1) coming from behind.

As it was expected on this type of early season course the race came down to a sprint finish and Ballymoney man

Jason Henry (U/A) was up for the task as he showed his ability, determination and winning attitude in beating Ballymena rider Mark McCullough in a close head-to-head sprint for the line.

Bobby Kane was close behind Jason as the riders covered the final miles at speeds exceeding 40mph.

A4 Race at Newry

In the A4 race Nigel Elder, Stevie McAllister and Bryan McKinney (BW) were in action.

This is a fantastic section of the cycling sport to encourage new and past competitors to get involved again.

All three riders had a confidence building day as they all comfortably finished in the fast travelling bunch sprint.

The sprint was won by Terry Mackin of Banbridge CC.

Ballymoney Cycling Club races

The first Ballymoney Cycling Club race of the season will be on Wednesday 7 April.

The race will start from Garryduff Church lay-by.

This famous lung-buster five mile TT will kick off the 2010 club race season.

All cyclists are invited to attend.
