Ballybrakes hosts a successful Christmas short mat tournament

Ballybrakes Community Indoor Bowling Club held their Annual Christmas Short-mat tournament, sponsored by Taylor Bowls and Basil Knipe Electrics, Ballymoney from Saturday 27th December until Thursday 1st January with Finals Night on Friday 2rd January.

The final of the pairs was contested between Tommy Johnston and Mark Wilson of Cookstown and the husband and wife duo Joe and Pauline Beatie from St Mark’s Portadown with the latter winning 12-3.

The singles final was a close affair between Paul Reid of Ballinderry and Seamus McMath of Michelin.

McMath playing his last bowl was holding one shot, enough to take the game into a tie-end, but he played his bowl with great precision to turn out Reids bowl, lie in it’s place and hold two for the match and title.

With the Christmas tournament entries increasing every year, this year having the most entries yet with over 300 singles entries the club have decided to run a “Round Robin Open Singles Tournament” on 7th and 8th February 2015 with a £1600 prize fund.
