Archery session moves indoors as seasons change

BALLYVALLY archers move indoors into Banbridge Leisure Centre for the autumn and winter sessions this week.

On Wednesday September 8 there will be the usual three sessions. The afternoon sessions are at 3.30pm and 4.30pm and the night session is from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Starting on Thursday September 9 there will be the usual five sessions. Afternoon sessions start at 3.30pm; 4.30pm and 5.30pm.

Night sessions start at 6.30pm and 8.30pm. Sessions for the archery veterans will also start on Tuesday 7th at 1.30pm

ROUNDS: In the Indoor season, the archery rounds shot change in the build up to the big competitions. Apart from Ballyvally club’s Open Portsmouth in October, the really BIG one is the British Barebow Champs hosted simultaneously in Wales (two venues), England (three venues) and in Ireland (one venue in Banbridge Leisure Centre).

This is in late November and is closely followed by the NI Indoor Junior Championships in January also hosted by Ballyvally.

JUNIOR BADGES AND UK LEAGUE: Juniors will start in September to shoot for their UK badges of which there are five colours and come November they will be involved in a UK wide league when they will be competing against many juniors from across the whole UK.

HUNTING TRAILS: Despite the start of the Autumn indoor season, the outdoor archery continues until Christmas. The next big event will be the hunting trails this Saturday Sept 11 club only and Sunday 12th (open shoot).

These shoots will be in Castlewellan forest Park and are eagerly anticipated by many archers as they are only shot once a year!

BEGINNERS: Beginners who would like to try a very ancient sport are very welcome to come along to any of the above sessions. All equipment is provided by the club and the age range of current archers is from four years of age to infinity.
