Another impressive win for U14s

TOWN Juniors Under-14s entertained Armagh last Wednesday evening at the Tech and continued their impressive form wth another convincing win.

The locals started brightly with confidence sky high following their Shield final victory on Saturday, as they zipped the ball about and with 11 minutes gone they got their breakthrough with Liam Farrell running through and coolly chipping the keeper.

Armagh to their credit regrouped and held firm and got their rewards on 21 minutes when they found an equaliser with a 20 yard lob. The Juniors didn’t drop their heads and stepped up a gear, going in front again on 31 minutes when the in form Michael Rafferty cut inside and slotted home to give the Juniors a half time lead.

The second half began in the same fashion as the first, with the locals playing all the football. Despite mounting pressure, Armagh remained defensively solid and kept the Juniors at bay.

The Juniors made some tactical changes in order to inject some fresh legs into the game with Jake Dennison and Caleb Schiess coming on. This worked to full effect as the Juniors found a third goal when Micheal Rafferty nodded the ball on for Liam Farrell who smashed in a volley from 25 yards into the top corner of the net for his second goal of the game.

The Juniors were on fire and Jake Dennison flew down the right before squaring for Owen Byrne to slot home the Juniors’ fourth on 22 minutes.

The Under-14s added another two goals - Owen Byrne scoring his second with a fine solo effort and Jake Laffin scoring from the edge of the box to leave the score 6-1.

This week’s joint man of the match went to Josh Dennison and Owen Byrne who couldn’t be separated as they both turned in a great performance with a high work rate.
