Anna’s goal gives in-form Bann Threes a win over Coleraine

Banbridge Ladies Thirds completed the double over Coleraine Seconds on Saturday with a narrow 1-0 victory thanks to a goal by Anna Waugh.

They managed to keep up their chase for a top two position in Junior Six with a well deserved victory, holding on to their advantage of going ahead early in the game.

Bann started strong with most of the play in their attacking half and soon after the starting whistle, great play by Anna Waugh and Ashleigh Mitchell up the left wing led to an excellent goal scored by Waugh.

Coleraine began to fight back at the end of the first half with a strong attack at Bann’s defence but the hosts were in no mood to give away the lead and held off the visitors until the half-time whistle.

Undeterred, Coleraine had a confident start to the second half. However, again Joanna Berry and Kate Cunningham did a good job backing up Bann’s forwards and the midfielders if the ball managed to slip past and held their clean sheet.

With the ball hitting an opponent’s feet, Bann achieved a penalty corner that almost brought a second goal. The set-piece was hit out by Rachel Groves to Ashleigh Mitchell who slipped it to Emma Leeper and she took a great shot but Coleraine’s goalkeeper made a super save.

Both sides fought until the end, but Bann held their lead and came away with the valuable three points.
