Annaclone victors over Carryduff side

Annaclone 0-14 Carryduff 0-7

THIS game was re-fixtured to Monday evening as pitches were waterlogged the previous Friday.

Although Annaclone scored first when Colm Fegan pointed in the fourth minute, Carryduff got off to a reasonably good start with points from a Stephen Flynn free and Ciaran Conway.

Carryduff’s defence exerted a lot of pressure on the Annaclone forwards forcing them to kick three wides in a five minute spell. Tony McMahon pointed for Carryduff in the 16th minute of play to give the visitors a two point advantage.

The next ten minutes, however, saw Annaclone run rampant, adding five points inside ten minutes. The trouble started for Carryduff when a free was conceded close to the left sideline and 25 metres out from the goal in the 17th minute of play. Aidan McElroy converted the free and two minutes later pointed from play.

Aidan Fegan converted another free for Annaclone in the 21st minute and Gary McArdle and Colm Fegan added points in the 25th and 26th minutes to leave for the locals to lead 0-6 to 0-3 at the break.

Peter Lavery replaced the injured Chris O’Neill at the break. The sides traded points in the first minutes of the half. Gary Byrne scored for Annaclone and Cian Slevin pointed for Carryduff.

Kieran Lavery saved Aidan Fegan’s 34th minute penalty and this should have helped steady the Carryduff cause. Colm Fegan added another point for Annaclone (35th) and Stephen Flynn (38th) and Cian Slevin (42nd) converted frees for Carryduff to pull the deficit back to two before Aidan Fegan converted again for Annaclone in the 43rd minute.

Niall McArdle reduced the margin to two again in the 44th minute. Annaclone, however, asserted and pressed their advantage with further points from Aidan Fegan (46th) and brother Colm (free, 48th) before Niall McArdle picked up a straight red for a rash challenge.

Annaclone pressed home their advantage with points from Brendan McArdle (50th), Thomas Pyres (56th) and substitute Pauric McNeill (60th) to seal the game with seven points to spare for Annaclone on a scoreline of Annaclone 0-14 Carryduff 0-07 .
