Amateurs Seconds topple league leaders

Dromore Amateurs Seconds came away from Dundonald on Saturday having defeated inflicted the first home defeat of the season on the league-leaders.

They beat high-flying Tullycarnet 2-1 thanks to a second-half comeback and goals from Tinsley and Beattie. The victory lifted them up to third place in the league table as their drive for promotion continues.

Dromore gradually came into the game and the midfield five of Beattie, McMurray, Curran, Martin and debutant Jardine started to get the better of their opponents.

However, against the run of play Tullycarnet scored on the break.

At half-time, manager Wayne Beggs told his players to continue in the same vein as the first-half had finished and they would get the rewards.

They certainly didn’t have to wait long for that as, on 50 minutes, they got a deserved equaliser when Tinsley found space in the box, swivelled and shot in off the post too make it 1-1.

Dromore continued to press and on 60 minutes the ever reliable Beattie got his ninth goal of the season when he met a Jardine corner with a thumping header that went into the corner of the net to the delight of the travelling support.

That sparked Tullycarnet into action and they pressed for the equaliser but it wasn’t forthcoming due to the great defensive work of Hill, McCartan, Brownlee and McDowell and Ward in the Dromore goal.

The Amateurs held out for a great victory which puts them up to third place, only eight points behind the leaders Tullycarnet with five games in hand. Manager Beggs said afterwards that he was proud of his players and the commitment they showed after the disappointment of last weeks game. He hopes they can kick on from here and challenge for promotion come the end of the season.
