Amateurs heading towards bottom spot

DROMORE headed to Bangor on Saturday for another interesting Division 1C match.

This was a clash between two teams that have had poor seasons recently and both are looking to look forward positively.

Bangor are much improved from previous meetings and their pitch was also in good shape.

Dromore had an early Coady headed goal ruled out for a push. This let off for Bangor encouraged them into action. Bangor dominated play for long periods and set pieces where a particular worry for Dromore.

Having soaked up a lot of pressure and riding their luck at times Dromore found themselves in the lead. Coady intercepted a poor back pass and finished effectively with a first time shot.

Bangor then equalised on the stroke of half time as their set piece dominance was evident again as they scored with an unchallenged header at the front post.

The hosts dominated the second half and took the lead after a poor clearance from a corner landed at the feet of a Bangor player who had time to control and get his shot away unchallenged.

There looked like no way back for Dromore who were being pegged back by a competent Bangor side that passed the ball with ease.

Dromore started to get themselves going again with the encouragement of captain Colin Kerr who was having a solid game.

Billy Coulter almost drew Dromore level but his header was well saved. From the resulting corner Billy won the header which was saved but the scramble was knocked in by captain Colin Kerr. Now it looked like a well earned draw was on the cards.

Sadly it was not to be as Dromore were again undone at the set peice. A flick on from a throw in hit the Dromore cross bar and again a Bangor player was unchallenged as he picked his spot from the rebound.

A fourth goal was to follow from the penalty spot. A Henderson threw himself bravely at a Bangor shot only for it to hit his arm and the referee pointed to the spot much to manager Smillie’s chagrin.

Dromore hope to get back to winning ways next week as they are getting close to the bottom places.
