Alll Smyles for Mark as his goal caps win

On 20 minutes, AFC took the lead. A great tackle on the edge of his own 18-yard line by Gary Spiers found Simon Canning in midfield, whose pass split the visiting defence sending Paul Maginess clear and he finished well past the on rushing keeper.

A Maginess effort well saved from 10 yds the closest either side come before half time.

As the game wore on, AFC seemed to drop deeper, allowing Tullyvallen a spell of pressure, with Adrian O’Grady taking over in nets from Cull, somehow clearing the ball with his foot from a rebound having made the initial save.

On 75 minutes, AFC finally got some breathing space, hitting Tullyvallen on the break. Cull was sent clear and cleverly dummied the keeper to leave himself a tap in.

Within 90 seconds it was 3-0. Mark Goan in his first game in three months crossed from the right, a dummy by Mark Smylie left Sean McKay with a tap in at the back post.

On 82 minutes, Tullyvallen finally breached the home defence. A free-kick flicked on from the edge of the box allowed their forward to nip in ahead of O’Grady to score.

The boys club then had a lucky escape when another free kick from the edge of the box rattled the bar.

Two minutes later, AFC finally put the game to rest. Another through ball from Canning put Cull away, this time his miscontrol fooled himself and the Tullyvallen keeper as the ball sneaked past him and into the net.

The best was saved to last, with the scoring completed in injury time when AFC again broke. Mark Smylie’s first touch was perfect and his powerful shot from just inside the box rattled the back of the net for his first ever goal in competitive football.
