Alice is U15s’ shootout hero

ON Tuesday May 1 Dromore Under 15s travelled to Banbridge Hockey Club at Havelock Park to play in a three way final for the Ulster Plate final.

The girls faced Banbridge in their first game which they knew would be a tough game as not only are Banbridge a strong team, they also had home advantage.

Dromore started the game slowly and took a while to settle and gain the pace of the game.

The Dromore girls were punished for this slow start as Banbridge managaged to score a scrappy goal.

This goal seemed to give Dromore the wake up call they needed and they lifted their game immediately. Good play from Amy Poots and Beth Ravey created chances for Dromore but they just couldn’t finish the chances they created and unfortunately time ran out.

In the second game Banbridge played Portadown and again the Banbridge team used the home advantage and strong play to beat Portadown by one goal to nil.

Dromore then knew that Banbridge had won the final but the girls were determined to beat Portadown to claim those silver medals.

Dromore started the game against Portadown from the front foot and created many chances to score, Emma Tweedie and Beth Ravey coming close on two occassions.

Great hockey from Jill Brown and young Alex Patterson saw Dromore take total control of the game. Dromore attacked and attacked but again couldn’t find that illusive goal.

The game had to be decided by nailbiting one v ones penalty runs. Goalkeeper Alice Winson was hero of the game saving all of Portadown’s penalties.

Sarah Wilson scored the winning penalty for Dromore to claim second place.

Player of the final was Ellen Wright for her fantastic work in defence.
