Aidy's one under par round is off the scale at Banbridge

Unsurprisingly, that was more than enough to take top spot in the sweep competition.

He played the nine holes in one under par gross. Off his 15 handicap, Aidy totalled 27 points, which is simply amazing. We all know that to average two points per hole is very respectable but three points per hole, that is off the Richter scale.

Aidy’s record this year is very similar to that of Eugene Weir. They have both won twice and they both have scored 27 points for nine holes. It will be interesting to watch how they fare when the real season gets underway.

SUNDAY 14TH FEBRUARY

Colin Kennedy is a very keen golfer and a very good player into the bargain.

It came as a bit of a surprise to learn that the last time Colin won the Sunday Sweep was way back in September 2013.

This was a very rewarding day for Colin. He played beautiful golf (one over par), duly won the sweep and shared the twos pot with John Poots and Robert Haire.

SATURDAY 13TH FEBRUARY

The weather wasn’t too bad and a total of 130 members turned up to play in the 11 holes sweep. That’s the best turnout this year.

John Canning won the competition by three clear points. John plays off 21 and he only dropped four shots to par over the 11 holes. That is very impressive golf, no doubt about it. The captain of the Junior Cowdy Cup team should be keeping an eye on John.

SUNDAY 7TH FEBRUARY

What can you say about Eugene Weir? It doesn’t matter what the weather is like or how difficult the course may be, Eugene always manages to play well.

There hasn’t been much competitive golf played so far this year but nevertheless Eugene has twice been a winner.

It was a good day too for Kenny Jones. He went home with a sizeable twos pot.

2nd- Colin Smylie (19) Nett 33.5.

THURSDAY 11TH FEBRUARY

Clifford Thompson has been a top class golfer for more years than he cares to remember. Off an 18 handicap, he is still a force to be reckoned with.

Clifford played the 11 holes of this sweep in only 4 over par which, when you consider the conditions, was close to brilliant.

Philip Mallon hit the jackpot when he had the only “2” on the day.
