Adderbury through to final after seeing off champions

The club recorded perhaps the biggest win in its 92-year history by beating Oxford & District League champions Headington A in Sunday’s semi-final.

Playing at Oxford’s City & County green, Adderbury beat the cup favourites, who lost once in the league this year, in the two-rink competition.

The final should have been played on the same day but heavy rain prevented the match going ahead and it will now be played on Friday.

Against Headington, Ian Dunn, Nigel Eley, Chris Skidmore and Ted Eley won 14-1 while Mick Jelfs, Paul Jelfs, Phil Gladden and Darren Sharpe won 10-4.

West Oxon MTL leaders Bloxham lost 65-63 against title rivals Witney Town Aces.

John Stephens rink with John Price and Sue Miles lost 15-20 but Norman Hambidge with Chris Field and Anne Kearvell won 15-13 with a four on the last end.

Ray Hopkins with Hilary Thomas and Roy Billington won 16-15 after picking up two on the final end while Alan Miles with Anna Undasan and Rob Kearvell drew 17-17.

Banbury Chestnuts drew 69-69 at Charlbury.

Chris Purnell with John Duncan and Pat Taylor won 21-9 while Margaret Morris with Dawn Hewitt and Dai Evans won 23-6.

But Mick Barter with Richard Cox and Dave Ward lost 12-23 and Sheila Maisham with Richard Morris and Colin Taylor lost 13-31.
