Academy take on Ulster Clubs U17s and Bann U19s

The representative side eventually won on a 4-2 try tally, but not before the school side had impressed with some fine attacking moves.

Scrum-half Conor Morrow opened the scoring with an unconverted try but although Academy continued to enjoy the better of the exchanges they were unable to add their tally in the first period. And just before the break Ulster went in at the corner to tie the scores.

Two unconverted tries in the second period took Ulster into a 15-5 lead, but in the last period man-of-the-match prop Calum Boardman crossed the Ulster line for a try. David Carleton’s conversion left his side just three points in arrears.

With both sides making full use of their replacements the result was in the balance until an unconverted try from the last move of the game sealed the win for Ulster.

- The Academy Firsts XV took to the pitch under the Rifle Park lights for the second Wednesday in succession. This time the local club’s U-19s provided the opposition and they proved just too strong for a school side still missing a number of key players, with Rory Thompson grabbing his side’s only try in a 29-5 defeat.

Also in midweek the Junior sides took on Belfast High School, recording two wins and one defeat against the city opposition.

The Medallion side had to battle hard for their success, with a try from Dylan McAteer, a hat-trick from Jordan Pickering and two conversions from Andrew Neill seeing them through to a 24-21 win.

The U-14s went down 7-28, with just a try from Ross Cartmill and Ben Thompson’s conversion to show for their efforts.
