Academy beat Bangor

BANBRIDGE Academy’s Senior First XI made light work of Bangor Grammar School on Saturday to maintained their 100% season to date.

The game was dominated by the Academy from start to finish.

They went ahead after four minutes when Owen Magee opened the scoring. A long ball from M Bell to the left wing was collected by Magee who beat several defenders and finished low across goalkeeper from the top of the circle.

Magee made it 2-0 after 18 minutes when a second short-corner was switched from the top of the D to the back post for Magee to deflect in.

It was 3-0 after 22 minutes through a Josh Moffett strole. A driven cross from the right wing by Andrew Bingham was collected by Moffatt who swiveled and finished from the flick spot area.

And on 26 minutes it was 4-0. Matthew Bell scored from a straight drag-flick from the Academy’s third short corner.

Fourteen minutes into the second half it was 5-0. Johnny McKee scored after an incisive run from Owen Magee and pass into the circle started the move. Great work and sharp, short passing from Rory Woods and Johnny McKee in the circle saw the later finishing from close range.

Two minutes later it was 6-0 through Owen Magee. A great steal from Ben Cosgrove in midfield, led to a pass to Magee who finished at the second attempt on the back-hand.

Owen Magee then made it a magificent seven from short corner number six in a carbon copy of the school’s second goal.

And on 20 minutes the eighth and final goal of the day was scored by Matthew Bell. He scored, once again, from a short corner number with a straight drag-flick.

- The U13 side won 6-0 with Jake Rowe scoring four and both Sam McMurray and Troy Knox on the score sheet too. The U14s also enjoyed a fine win with hat tricks from James Brown and Peter McKnight, with the other scored by in from Ryan Murphy.
