A Down Royal double for the Crawfords

The Crawford brothers from Magheramorne - Stuart, Ben and Stephen - had a day to remember at the Northern Ireland Festival of racing at Down Royal on Saturday.

The annual event is Northern Ireland’s premier jump racing showcase and features horses trained by the some of the top trainers in Ireland.

The Crawfords won two of the seven races on the card. Ben took the honours in the second race, riding the six-year-old Latin Connection owned by the Pircan Partnership in a large field of 20 runners.

Not to be outdone, Stephen then won the seventh race, riding four-year-old Gilt Shadow which is owned by David Gordon Roberts. There were 18 runners in the two-mile race. Older brother Stuart trains both horses.

British champion jumps trainer, Paul Nicholls, had two winners at the meeting: one of which was Kauto Stone ridden by Daryl Jacob which won the Champion Chase - a Grade 1 race over three miles. Kauto Stone is a half-brother to the recently retired double Gold Cup champion Kauto Star.
