Lidl has issued a product recall notice for one of its pork mince products, due to the potential risk of small pieces of plastic within packages.

The product affected is the Birchwood XXL Pork Mince (12% fat) 1kg pack, with a use by date of 13 February, bearing a yellow and red sticker which says ‘Family Pack’.

The mince is sold exclusively at Lidl, which has issued a notice on its website alerting customers to the potential presence of small pieces of plastic in the product.

However, the retailer stressed that other products with the Birchwood brand label, or other versions of the same product with different use by dates, are not impacted by this recall.

What should I do if I’ve bought the product?

If you have bought the affected product you should not eat it, due to the risk posed by ingesting plastic.

You can return the mince to any Lidl store for a full refund, even without a receipt.

Alternatively, you may dispose of the product and still receive a refund so long as you take a photo of the mince with the use by date visible, and email it to [email protected]

According to the company’s website, Lidl “wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused”.

If you have any queries about the recall, you can contact customer services on the email address above, or call on 0370 444 1234.
