Young drivers’ project arrives at St Patrick’s

Pupils took part in two YPAD sessions which aim to raise awareness with young drivers and with young passengers about the potential consequences of unsafe practices like texting while driving, distracting the driver or getting into a car if you have concerns that the ability of the driver is impaired by alcohol and/or drugs.

These simple but critical messages are put across to the students by engaging them in three workshops delivered by the project partners: PSNI officers, SELB Youth Workers, Banbridge District Council Community Safety Wardens and Allstate NI who promote the ‘X The Text’ campaign in conjunction with DoE.

The YPAD project for 2013/14 started last month and will run until the start of March 2014. It is being taken to every post-primary school and to the SRC Banbridge campus with the full support of the respective principals giving all students aged 16-17 years the opportunity to participate. The YPAD project will be in Rathfriland High School on Thursday (October 24).
