Xtreme FM back on the airways

The project which centres on the production of a live radio show from Brownlow Resource Centre has given dozens of young people the opportunity to go ‘on air’.

The radio station went live on November 30 and will run until December 21. It runs daily from 8am to 1pm, seven days a week on 104FM.

Sean Irving, Senior Youth Worker/Team Leader said: “The project is designed to encourage young people to develop new skills and have their voice heard. It also allows participants to engage with their peers on a variety of issues and to communicate these issues to a wider audience via a three-week radio broadcast.

The project is funded through the Department for Social Development Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership and is delivered at Brownlow Resource Centre. Project members thanked the SELB Youth Service for their continued support for the project.

Xtreme FM involves participants aged 14 and above from neighbourhood renewal areas and focuses on the development of interpersonal skills, teamwork and radio production. It provides the opportunity for new experiences and specific training in radio production and broadcast skills in addition to gaining an OCN qualification.
