The pedestrian sustained injuries resulting in the loss of a leg from the knee down, after being struck by a motorcyclist travelling at high speed on the A1 carriageway near the Halfway House on Good Friday (April 18) of last year.

The rider did not stop at the scene, and police still investigating the matter are appealing for anyone who may have information on the incident to come forward.

At the time, the daughter of the 70 year old Dromore man made an emotional appeal calling for anyone who witnessed the accident or who knew who the motorcyclist was, to contact the police in Banbridge.

“Someone has to know something and if it was your dad or family member I’m sure you would want the police to catch them,” she said.

“If you know something and don’t come forward then you are as bad as the person who was riding that motorbike.

“We are very lucky that he was fit and healthy - he walks the dog six or eight miles every day, otherwise he could have been killed,” she said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the investigating officer, constable Liam Munt of Banbridge Police on 101 quoting serial 1304 of 18/4/2014.
