William was a quiet but friendly man

THE death has taken place of Mr William Armstronge Redmond from 245 Ballygowan Road, Dromore.

William (Willie or Billy as he was known) was born in Carnew, one of a family of four, and attended Carnew School.

He married Lila (nee Dempster) on November 16, 1960 in Maze Presbyterian Church and the couple celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 2010.

He is survived by his wife Lila, daughter Annabell Walker, son Wesley (both Ballygowan Road), son Clifford (Hamiltonsbawn) and families.

William passed away peacefully on September 11 at the aged of 83. His death was sudden, but he had suffered a short illness, which he bore with patience and acceptance, trusting in God for He knows best.

William was a lifetime and faithful member of Kilkinamurray Presbyterian Meeting House, was a faithful member of Loyal Orders Gransha LOL, and Dromara RBP, which he loved and attended regularly until near the end.

Interested in farming in his early days William worked at the home farm since he was a boy.

He left to help his bereaved mother, along with his borthers John and Robbie (now deceased), then farmed his own farm, sheep farming at Finnis as well as working out in public works. His last job was with the DOE Waterboard, which he retired from.

He had a love for music (country, gospel, old time),road bikes, working horses and animals.

He was a quiet, friendly, respectable man - always keen to speak to anyone, reminiscing over old times and stories, especially with his late brother-in-law Alfred Dempster.

The well-attended funeral took place from his home on September 13 for service in Kilkinamurray Presbyterian Meeting House. Interment was in the adjoining burying ground.

Rev Michael Davidson officiated at the funeral, saying William had been prepared for eternity quite some time ago through his Prebsyterian faith.

RJ Poots had charge of the funeral arrangements.
