What has happend to village post box?

It is believed the post box on the Banbridge Road was damaged more than a month ago in an accident.

However, despite the pleas of residents and public representatives, no replacement has been provided by Royal Mail.

Members of the Ulster Unionist Waringstown branch say they have been approached by villagers anxious for assistance in getting their box back.

Branch secretary Marc Woods said people were left “exasperated” at what he described as the “apparent lack of priority” being given to replacing the box by Royal Mail.

Mr Woods said, “Many of the residents who have approached us have been left inconvenienced by the removal of their post box, which we understand was damaged following an accident.

“We are calling on Royal Mail to replace the box, in its original form, as a matter of urgency.”

UUP MLA Jo-Anne Dobson said: “I have spoken to a number of elderly residents in the village who have mobility problems and have been left unable to post their mail because of the disappearance of this box.

“I have written directly to Royal Mail asking them to both explain the delay in replacing the box and also to give an undertaking to have a new or repaired box in place in the very near future.”

Waringstown UUP Branch chairman Eddie Nimmons said, “This is a total disgrace. At a time when Royal Mail, like any business, should be encouraging people to use their services, by not replacing this damaged box, they are actively losing customers.

“I don’t want to see this happen and would encourage the Royal Mail to replace the box immediately.”

One Waringstown resident said, “It’s very inconvenient for the residents and we’d like to see this resolved as soon as possible.”

The Royal Mail said a request for a new post box had been lodged and work would be done within the next couple of weeks.
