Went on wrecking spree in house

A LURGAN man who went on a wrecking spree in a house he part-owns has been put on probation for 18 months.

Neil McConville (37) of Dill Avenue appeared in Craigavon Court on Thursday charged with criminal damage.

On April 28 the injured party reported to police the defendant had been in the property along with her when he had walked out to the back garden and smashed the kitchen window with a shovel or rake then started smashing flowerpots.

The injured party went to her mother's house and when she came back she observed paint over the kitchen cupboards and floor. Doors had also been damaged. In total the damage came in at 1,000.

McConville's solicitor pointed out that part of the property that he damaged was his own and he had paid for repairs.

The court was told McConville has problems with misuse of alcohol and anger issues.

The probation service's report listed the defendant as being at a high risk of reoffending.

District judge Alan White sentenced McConville to 18 months probation and ordered him to attend the anger management and alcohol programmes.
