Welcome for Fuel Allowance payments

THE news that fuel allowance payments are being issued to just over a quarter of a million vulnerable people across Northern Ireland, has been welcomed by a local assembly member.

Upper Bann DUP MLA Stephen Moutray said, “Keeping warm during the winter months is vitally important. The cold endangers many lives each winter in Northern Ireland with the result that we have one of the highest rates of cold related deaths in the UK.”  

“Northern Ireland has, over recent years, suffered with one of the worst levels of cold related deaths in the UIK. Keeping warm during the winter months is vitally important as the cold endangers many lives each year.”

“The payment of either £100 or £75 is being made to those who in the week 12 to 18 December 2011 were in receipt of: Pension Credit, Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance (income based) or Employment Support Allowance (income related).

“These payments are made automatically. Some 253,000 vulnerable people across Northern Ireland will benefit from this payment.

“Those in receipt of Pension Credit will receive £100, with all others qualifying receiving £75. Anyone qualifying, who has not received a payment by February 29 should call NI Direct on 0300 200 7870.

“If anyone has any questions about this payment or any doubts about their eligibility I would ask them to contact my office where we will be happy to help in any way possible.”
