Watch: New play area opens at Davagh Forest trails

Chairman of Cookstown District Council, Councillor Wilbert Buchannon led the ceremony held last week with local dignitaries and pupils from a neighbouring primary school.

Formalities drew to a close with the grand unveiling of Cookstown Leisure Services latest lure, the newly acquired ‘Rock n Go’ mobile climbing wall.

Speaking during the opening Chairman of Cookstown District Council, Councillor Wilbert Buchannon commented: “Cookstown District Council area has prospered over the years through significant investment and this project is no exception.

“Davagh Forest Trails has grown from strength to strength and this new addition to the park facilities is a perfect example of how Davagh Forest is now a recognised recreational forest which caters for all markets.”

The Play Park has been constructed by McMackin Contracts and the paly equipment supplied by ALL PLAY. A Council representative was on hand, to state “By working in conjunction with Forest Service, Broughderg Community Group and SWARD this project demonstrates the commitment and results of local government working in partnership with key organisations to secure a more diverse range of facilities and attractions in our Forest’s, for the benefit of our rural communities and for the enjoyment of present and future generations. What’s more, a 4 km stretch of a steam trail will be opening in the near future.”

The Council certainly are not resting on their laurels as the event also marked the launch of their latest asset - The ‘Rock n Go’ mobile climbing wall, the very first of its kind to be based in Northern Ireland. Towering 6.5 metres high and 2.6 metres wide the custom built attraction has been crafted to Leisure Services exact specifications and the attraction puts Cookstown Leisure Services at the forefront of the latest urban sports scene. Although showcased at Davagh Forest Trails, ‘Rock n Go’ is fully portable and can be situated throughout the province and lends itself extremely well to all types of environment and event.
