Watch: Fans heartache as One Direction show cancelled

Anxious One Direction fans were this morning waiting to hear whether tonight’s concert in Belfast will go ahead.

The move comes after the 1D concert at the SSE arena was dramatically cancelled last night just minutes before the band were due on stage.

Devastated One Direction fans were told that Liam had taken ill, and while it wasn’t serious, he was unable to perform.

The band has apologised and it’s expected they will make a statement regarding tonight’s concert (Wednesday) later this morning.

The diehard fans had been in Belfast since Tuesday afternoon.

Lucy, 15, said when it was announced in the arena the concert was off, there were tears of disbelief and disappointment.

“I was like ‘no, no, no this can’t be happening. I was so excited about the concert, I couldn’t get to sleep. I couldn’t believe it. It’s devastating.”

Lucy’s mum said her daughter had received the coveted One Direction ticket for Christmas last year.

“She was devastated when the announcement was made,” said Anne. “There were tears.”

Fan reactions on social media ranged from anger to get well wishes.

One fan questioned it all, asking: “Remember when Howard from Take That broke his ribs and the rest of them went on without him?! Take note #onedirectionbelfast”.

Another wrote: “Not to be selfish but I flew home from uni for this, so kinda hoping for the best tomorrow.. #onedirectionbelfast #GetWellSoonLiam”.

Referring to the scores of heartbroken teens, one fan commented: “I’ve never heard so many hearts break at one time #onedirectionBelfast.”
