Joshua David Halliday, Mullaghglass Road, Scarva, admitted using his mobile phone while driving on the Lurgan Road, Portadown, on May 15 this year.

The court heard that at 4.10pm police saw the defendant drive from Upper Church Lane onto the Lurgan Road.

He was holding a phone to his right ear with his right hand and was having a conversation.

As he passed police he dropped his right arm and used his shoulder to support the phone.

When spoken to by police he admitted the offence and told him he had nine live points on his licence.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said his client knew he was in difficulties and that his partner would now have to take on the duties of ferrying the children.

District Judge, Mr Peter King, imposed three points and on the totting up system banned the defendant from driving for six months.

He also fined him £75 and ordered him to pay a £15 offender’s levy.
