Alexander (Sandy) Brown of Rathfriland Road, Banbridge died recently at Craigavon Area Hospital on Monday August 18.

Born on February 2, 1939 Alexander was brought up at Castlewellan Road, Rathfriland in Moneygore.

He attended Clonduff Primary School until the age of 14 when he left school and went to work at various farms. He later went onto work for the Department of Agriculture in the River Division

Alexander married Sarah in 1977 and went to live in Primrose Gardens before they moved to Rathfriland Road, Banbridge. He drummed for many years in Moneygore Pipe Band and sang in Clonduff Presbyterian Church Choir and the Leeward Male Voice Choir.

He loved sport and would race scrambler motorbikes at Tinkerhill and was also a keen salmon fisherman. He enjoyed watching sports on television especially football, snooker and motorbike racing and was a keen supporter at all the motorbike races.

He loved pigeons which he bred and raced for many years. Alexander also played for the Rathfriland Dart League and was a member of Scarva Street Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his brother Kenneth, sisters Lorna and Eva. The funeral took place in Scarva Street Presbyterian Church at which Rev. Finlay officiated.

The hymns ‘The Lord’s My Shepherd’ and ‘What A Friend we Have in Jesus’ were sung. Tom Haire played the organ.

The interment took place in the New Cemetery. Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu of flowers are being sent to William Bell and Co. Funeral Directors, 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge, BT32 3LR for The Southern Area Hospice.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to William Bell and Co.
