Was a keen sailor and singer with Zion choir

THE Banbridge community has been mourning the passing of Mr Arnold George Crothers of Castlewellan Road. He was aged 76 when he passed away at his home on Friday, 29th January.

Mr Crothers was known as a great family man and his happiest moments were those spent with his family and grandchildren around him. He was a keen sailor and had been an enthusiastic member of Newcastle Yacht Club.

A mechanical engineer by trade, Mr Crothers worked at Bridgeport Brass, Lisburn, for many years before his retirement and he was an active member of Scarva Street Presbyterian Church.

In recent years he took up painting and attended local art classes. He also enjoyed singing and was a member of Zion male voice choir.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, daughter, Mrs Jill Graham; step-sons Nigel, David and Paul Beck and daughters-in-law Judith, Miriam and Heather; step-daughter, Mrs Eleanor Wilson; brothers Hedley and John; and grandchildren Rachel, Sara, Matthew, Joshua, Peter, Adam and Ben.

The funeral service took place at Scarva Street Presbyterian Church, with interment in Banbridge New Cemetery. Rev Andrew Watson and Rev James Briggs officiated at the ceremony and Mr Tom Haire was organist.

Donations in lieu of flowers should be sent to R J Poots and Co., 6 Circular Road, Dromore, for the oncology department BCH and Macmillan nurses.
