Waringstown couple tricked out of £50

TWO men posing as police officers tricked an elderly Waringstown couple out of £50 pounds in October 1983.

The bogus policemen had already struck three times in Belfast, but this was the first instance of the crime locally.

The men were both believed to be in their 40s.

In both cases, Waringstown and Belfast, the ‘policemen’ made off in a yellow car.

The two men called at a home in the Waringstown area at 11.45am.

They told the owners they were policemen investigating a burglary, and once inside the house, claimed they had arrested someone for the crime.

One of the men took 50 out of the man’s wallet and then they left.
