Waringstown Church theft ‘defies belief’

A donation box was taken and damage was caused to the building between Tuesday and Thursday last week.

Mrs Dobson said: “I know from speaking with residents that this incident, which defies belief, has left behind real hurt within the village.

“Any burglary is a harrowing event, leaving behind disruption for others to clean up, but to break into a church to steal money is particularly callous.

“It is disturbing that when people devote time to attend and support their local church that there are people who feel they can cause this sort of hurt for what would appear to be a relatively small amount of personal gain.”

Councillor Marc Woods said: “This is the second incident at the church in so many weeks following burglars entering the tool shed and making away with two lawnmowers and a strimmer at the end of July.

“We need to send a strong message to those responsible for both these incidents, and more recent burglaries in the local area, that the community in Waringstown will not tolerate this and the best way to do this is by bringing them to book for their crimes.”

Mrs Dobson said: If anyone has information I would urge that they pass this on to the police urgently.”
