Wallace High pupils home from Berlin trip

The trip was planned to develop language skills as well as broaden our Key stage Three and Four students’ understanding of German culture and history.

Highlights of the trip included visits to Checkpoint Charlie, the TV tower and Cecilienhof Castle. The poignant visits to the Jewish Museum and Sachsenhausen concentration camp.

Year 11 student Nathan Lindsay commented: “These experiences helped bring my History GCSE to life and were very moving.”

Staff and pupils, made the most of the tour of the huge Olympic stadium which is home to Hertha BSC whilst shopping in the famous Kudamm. The Fat Tire Bike Tour gave the Lisburn party an opportunity to hear fascinating facts about the many historical monuments and to explore the city’s vibrant side streets and stunning parks.

Year 10 pupil Amy Galashan added, “The five day trip was amazing. It was great fun practising my German and I really enjoyed experiencing everyday life in another country.” Organiser Kerrie Ferguson concluded, “Our students were wonderful ambassadors for their school and city and their exemplary behaviour was commented on throughout the trip.

“I’d like to thank my colleagues Alana Frey, Paul Beaton and Liam Halferty for their efforts in making the trip such a success. Following our Sixth Years’ successful participation in the Euroscola event in Strasbourg earlier this year, it was a pleasure to see the 42 younger students so keen to learn about different cultures.”
