Vote for localarts charity

AN Eglinton based charity which teaches adults with learning disabilities from across the wider Londonderry area new skills in music and the creative arts needs YOUR vote to secure National Lottery funding to continue its vital work.

SDLP Derry City councillor Brenda Stevenson has urged people to vote for Eglinton-based group, Something Special, in their bid to secure the funding.

The group is the only one in Northern Ireland to have been nominated in the National Lottery’s Arts Award category.

Mrs Stevenson, who is involved with the group, said: “Something Special has grown from strength to strength year on year and would really appreciate the help of all the communities out there to support us in our bid to achieve the National Lottery Award.

“The participants gain so much from the courses provided, music and art are two of the greatest mediums for expressing ourselves especially for those of us with communication difficulties.

“We are the only group in Northern Ireland to have been nominated in the Arts Award so it would be absolutely fantastic if we could win. Please follow the link below and find out how to vote and please encourage your family and friends to do the same.”

Something Special was established five years ago to provide an alternative approach to Day Opportunities for young adults with learning difficulties, as an education centre based in Eglinton.

It provides courses from the Playtrail and Foyle View School in Londonderry and takes members from across the North-West, including Limavady, Greysteel, Eglinton and Londonderry.

Students aged 16 and above participate in a range of accredited courses such as Working Towards Independence while focussing on learning and developing new skills in music and creative arts.
