UUP Think Pink to fight breast cancer

UUP Leader Tom Elliott commended Jo-Anne and Carol on their drive to raise awareness. “The Ulster Unionist Party is committed to a better future for the people of Northern Ireland, and anything we can do to raise awareness of this devastating illness is time and money well spent,” he said.

Urging the people of Northern Ireland to “Think Pink” on October 29, Banbridge councillor Carol Black recollected her own experiences.

“Having Breast Cancer is an emotional rollercoaster, not just for the patient but for the whole family. I was with my mother when she was told she had breast cancer and I really thought she was going to die. Nothing prepared us for the emotional and financial worries that we faced as a family in the months ahead.

“Mum had one of her breast removed and received her prosthesis shortly after her operation. It’s been two years now and, thanks to early diagnosis, the work of cancer support groups and of course her medical team, we are hopeful that she is firmly on the road to recovery.”

Jo-Anne Dobson said, “I am told that nothing prepares you for the diagnosis of cancer and selfishly I hope that I never will experience it. Having witnessed my mother’s struggles with the loss of my grandmother to cervical cancer at an early age and, more recently, my best friend’s breast cancer diagnosis, I know the devastation it inflicts.

“That is why I think it is so important that we all do our bit to raise awareness. By wearing pink on 29th October we can keep breast cancer firmly in the spotlight, hopefully encouraging early detection and funding vital research.”
