Used magnet on electricity meter

When a search was carried out at the house of a 51-year-old man it was discovered a magnet was being used to prevent electricity from recording.

Anthony Byrne, Meadowbrook, Craigavon, was fined £75 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for the offence on November 4, 2014. He was also fined £75 for possession of the magnet for use in course of a fraud.

The court heard that a planned search was carried out at Byrne’s home address and a magnet was attached to the side of the electricity meter.

Mr Conor Downey, defending, said that to recover the amount of money owed 40p was taken out of every pound of electricity used by his client.
