Upper Bann MLA Sydney Anderson has congratulated the new DUP leader and First Minister, Arlene Foster on her recent election.
Speaking at a recent party meeting, Mr Anderson said: “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Arlene Foster on her election as DUP leader.
“I have known and worked with Arlene for many years and her undoubted abilities have now been further recognised through her election to the high position of leader of our party.
“I strongly believe that she has the capability and skills to lead our party into this election and beyond with confidence, strength and determination.”
Mr Anderson was recently selected by the DUP to contest the upcoming Assembly election in Upper Bann.
He was selected and ratified as a candidate for the 2016 Assembly election by the DUP’s ruling party executive at a meeting in Belfast.
Mr Anderson has been involved in politics for most of his adult life.
He first entered frontline politics when he was elected onto the former Craigavon Borough Council in 2001 which he served on until November 2013.
Mr Anderson was co-opted into the Northern Ireland Assembly in 2010 to replace David Simpson MP and went on to receive 5,854 first preference votes at the 2011 Assembly election, topping the Unionist poll in Upper Bann.
Speaking following his confirmation as an election candidate, Mr Anderson said: “I am delighted to have been selected by the central party and to have been ratified recently to contest the Assembly election in Upper Bann.
“Having served in the Assembly for over five years I now look forward to again being given the opportunity to contest this election and hopefully be returned by my constituents so that I can continue to represent and deliver for local people in Stormont.
“It has been an honour and a privilege to represent this constituency and I firmly believe that I have much more to offer in the years ahead.”
