Uninsured motorist stopped for using phone while driving

When police stopped a motorist for using a mobile phone while he was driving it was also discovered he was not insured.

Gintaras Rotmanas (46), Princes Street, Lurgan, was fined £200 last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for driving without insurance on April 11, 2014.

He was also given six points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

For using a mobile phone while driving he was fined £50.

The court heard that police saw the defendant talking into a mobile phone while he was driving in Market Street in Lurgan.

They stopped him and checks revealed no insurance was in place. The policy had been cancelled because of a non payment of a premium.
